Joel & Danie: Engaged December 25th, 2023

This Fall, just before the leaves were being blown from their branches, Joel and Danie took in the colors along the Potomac River together to commemorate their engagement.  Although they have been engaged for just shy of two years now, like so many people in the pandemic era, establishing wedding plans is now trickier and necessitates planning further out; a lasting effect in our new post-pandemic normal — Joel and Danie will be wed this coming Spring!

While planning their engagement session, the two poked fun at each other if they would wear their respective uniforms for the shoot - both are “airport people,” like myself, and paused several times during our shoot to see which flight was overhead.  Once again, aviation has a way of bringing people together.  The afternoon wrapped up with a leaf fight - no leaf piles were on hand to jump into.

Stay tuned this Spring for Joel and Danie’s wedding, after the snow melts and the flowers begin to emerge in Arlington!

Madonna & Rubin - Maternity Portraits

9 months can fly by, and Madonna and Rubin are just a few weeks away from welcoming their daughter, [REDACTED].

Since Rubin and Donna share aviation deep in their roots, Donna decided it was appropriate to have her maternity portraits with the sound of jet engines roaring above.  During a busy afternoon bank of DCA departures Donna glowed in the sunlight and with the DC skyline and active runways behind her.

David and Tiffany: Married July 6th, 2019

Although their wedding was two days after Independence Day, David and Tiffany kept the fireworks going for their Summer wedding day in Arlington; a fitting contrast to their Autumn engagement session in Shenandoah.

As with many traditional Chinese weddings, David and Tiffany celebrated among family and friends with a dinner party, which gave us extra time for portraits that steamy July afternoon. After exploring sites inside and around their hotel in Arlington, it was time to head to a nearby Chinese banquet hall to greet family and dear friends before the small ceremony began. Following toasts from close friends, the ten-course dinner feast was served, offering a spectrum of traditional and American Chinese flavors. And of course there was cake and champagne to conclude the meal as guests began parting ways for the evening.

After the formal events had wrapped up, a small afterparty group met at Whitlow’s On Wilson in nearby Clarendon to buy David and Tiffany some drinks and enjoy some dancing to 90s and 2000s rock hits for the first time as newlyweds.

DCA Planespotting - May 25th, 2018 - Summer Sunset Planespotting

I've been sitting on a huge backlog of personal photos I've been working through; this set of plane spotting photos from Gravelly Point were edited and completed within a week of me shooting them, but somehow I forgot to get them online.  So here are some highlights for you to enjoy - some Summer sunset planespotting for you.

DCA Planespotting - May 17th, 2018

Just like I did two weeks ago, I decided to drop into Gravelly Point after a photoshoot at DCA.  This time I only spent 10 minutes there, because it was raining, but I wanted to stop and check out the view, because it was raining.  Sometimes inclement weather can lead to more interesting action shots than a "perfect" clear day, because water vapor can condense and leave trails and vortices that add a little something extra. Sadly this was not the case that day, but I did get an interesting view through the approach lighting, and spoke with a couple who stopped on their bikes to enjoy the view and ask about my attention-grabbing lens.

I also managed to capture this arrival and departure through the approach lights; this is 400mm handheld, and I didn't bring my microphone, so just enjoy the footage for what it is :-)
